“Penpol pupils are curious, creative and courageous learners. Our school community believes in authenticity as the foundation of deep-rooted learning. Through our rich and relevant curriculum, we nurture community-minded, forward-facing international citizens of the future.”

A message from our Friends in France

Here at Penpol, we have a rich community which stretches far and wide, beyond the school gates.  For three years, we have been in contact with Madame Jourdain’s Year 5 classes, at Le Bourg primary school in SW France.  We have been exchanging letters, information about our lovely school and area, sending over games and passing on cultural differences between the two countries.

One aspect which is very similar between the two countries right now is that French children are now, like us, working from home for the time being, rather than at school.

Maintaining connections during this rather strange time is a powerful thing – be it with family, friends, teachers, as well as our friends over the pond at Ecole Primaire le Bourg- and it gives us all a sense that we are in this together.

The children from Le Bourg primary school have sent messages, some in French and some in English, detailing what they are getting up to during this period outside of the classroom.  I am also very excited to send some of our own messages in French/ English to let them know what we are doing during this time.  Please feel free to send them in to your teachers if you have anything you would like to share in French…the more, the merrier!  Also, if you feel like you need a refresher on some of the topics your teachers have been doing with you, with the help of Mr Woolcock I have uploaded a French and Spanish section with plenty of games and activities to try out and boost your confidence.  You can find the French and Spanish section on the home learning section of the school website.

For now, check out the lovely message sent from their teacher, Madame Jourdain, as well as the letters from the Year 5 children below and see how you get on with some of the translations…

Year 1 Cinema Trip!

What better to do on a rainy Wednesday than visit the cinema?! Classes 3 and 4 were very excited to see the Secret Life of Pets 2 – all about a little dog called Max who has to overcome his fears to save the day.

Our day started with an exciting trip on a double decker bus, with the children singing some lovely songs to keep us entertained along the way. We arrived just in time to settle down for the film and there was lots of giggling throughout!

Before the trip home, we had lunch in the upstairs seating area where the children enjoyed socialising and discussing their favourite part of the film over their sandwiches!

We were so proud of the whole year group – there behaviour was fantastic and was even commented on by a teacher of another school who said that the children we so well behaved and that you wouldn’t know there were 60 five year olds in there!

Well done Year 1, another super trip with fantastic behaviour – we can’t wait for the next!

Year 1 – Spooky Dress up Day!

Classes 4 and 3 had a spooktaculartime celebrating our 'Spooky dress up day."

We took part in lots of spooky activities throughout the day. The children came up with some ghastly adjectives to use to write a 'GHOST' acrostic poem.

We also explored estimation in maths, carrying out a ghoulishpumpkin investigation!

Both classes loved getting messy by making some spooky, gloopy soup too!

We finished the day with a 'spooky' disco and yoga, retelling a haunting story through yoga poses.

We all had a magical day!

Music in the Marquee 2019 – The Movie!

This year we had our fifth Music in the Marquee concert here at Penpol School, this year featuring the amazing Leanne Kyte as The Ariana Grande Experience.  As is fast becoming a tradition, we’ve made a very special short film of the evening to bring back all of those amazing memories!

As always, these events are held to help raise money for the Penpol Friends Association (PFA) and this year I’m thrilled to say that we’ve raised nearly four and a half thousand pounds – all of which will go to supporting Penpol School in the years to come.

Thank you all so much for supporting our school through events like these.

Class 4 enjoy World Book Day

It was World Book Day this month and Class 4 celebrated in style. All of the children enjoyed a fun filled day, reading books, listening to stories and drawing their favourite book characters. Their costumes were fantastic. Check out our fab photos…

Well done Class 4. You looked great!

Announcing Music in the Marquee 2019

The last four years have seen sell out performances at our annual Music In The Marquee concerts from Little Chix, Yellow and last year’s return performer Bradley Johnson.

I’m delighted to say that this summer we will be hosting our fifth concert in the marquee, on Saturday 20th July 2019. Each year we ask the children which music they are enjoying and what sort of act they’d like to see play in our marquee at the end of the Summer term. This year one name kept coming up in each class we spoke to and that was the one and only Ariana Grande.

So, with great excitement, I’d love to introduce you to The Ariana Grande Experience performed by the incredibly talented singer Leanne Kyte. Leanne is a singer/dancer from North London who studied musical theatre for two years in California. Since coming back to the UK she’s been on tours around the country, has performed in the US and Canada and has received rave reviews for both her singing and dancing.

Leanne will be playing two sets of live music on the night, the first being a hit-filled and family-friendly Ariana Grande tribute set including tunes both new and old including ‘Problem’, ‘No Tears Left to Cry’, ‘Into You’ and ‘One Last Time’, followed by a later set which will include other popular covers. As always with Music in the Marquee her two sets will be accompanied by local support acts to round off the whole evening’s entertainment. We’re delighted to confirm that this years support acts will include a return for the fantastic DJ Flo Selecta, a debut performance from acoustic singer Hannigan and also an incredibly exciting set from the local band Saltwater Cure – featuring our very own Mr Emery!

Just like in previous years the event will raise money for the Penpol Friends Association and will also feature a fully licensed bar, BBQ, soft drinks, and food for everyone to enjoy. I hope you’ll agree that Music in the Marquee 2019 is already shaping up to be a phenomenal night of entertainment.

We are opening this event to the whole community, but want to give our Penpol parents the first chance to get tickets.  For this reason we’re offering you a special pre-sale of tickets, starting TODAY! Tickets are priced at £9 for adults and £6 for children.  Please note that all children must be accompanied by an adult.

Please return this slip and money to the office to secure your tickets. Music in the Marquee has been a sell out for the past four years and tickets will be on a first come first served basis.
