This half term (25.02.2023), Classes 7 and 8 went on an exciting trip to Geevor Tin Mine as part of their topic for this term – ‘Minecraft’!
We arrived in the morning and put our hard hats on – ready for adventure!
Both classes split into two groups with one going down into one of the mines and the other learning about the different types of rocks and minerals that were mined at Geevor…
The mineshaft was very confined; the adults had to bend down to be able to walk through properly!
After both groups had explored their respective areas, we swapped over to discover what else the tin mine had to offer!
We were able to have a look around lots of different areas that the miners used from 1911 up until 1990!
We learnt lots of interesting facts about why Geevor was built and how all of its machinery operated – we were also lucky enough to have the chance to pan for gold!
It was a hugely exciting day packed full of fun, for one and all!
A huge thank you to The Heritage Trust who funded the bus travel to get to Geevor!
On Thursday, Year 3 had the opportunity to dress up in their best ‘ancient Egyptian’ outfits as part of their topic this term.
However, afterwards, it was then time to explore the ancient Egypt area…
One of the tour guides from the museum told us all about (and showed) their different Egyptian artefacts, a sarcophagus and a real mummy! We even got the chance to draw on some papyrus paper!
Before we embarked on our walks, we had a visitor from ShelterBox – called Danny – come in and tell us all about what they do as a charity, as well as showing us some of the items that are sent all around the world to families in need.
Everyone arrived at school dressed in blue and yellow clothes (the colours of Ukraine’s flag). Some children even made flags and banners with their buddies to wave around as they walked through Hayle!
Classes teamed up with their Reading Buddies to go on their walk, with each team choosing various routes to complete their mile.
What better to do on a rainy Wednesday than visit the cinema?! Classes 3 and 4 were very excited to see the Secret Life of Pets 2 – all about a little dog called Max who has to overcome his fears to save the day.
Our day started with an exciting trip on a double decker bus, with the children singing some lovely songs to keep us entertained along the way. We arrived just in time to settle down for the film and there was lots of giggling throughout!
Before the trip home, we had lunch in the upstairs seating area where the children enjoyed socialising and discussing their favourite part of the film over their sandwiches!
We were so proud of the whole year group – there behaviour was fantastic and was even commented on by a teacher of another school who said that the children we so well behaved and that you wouldn’t know there were 60 five year olds in there!
Well done Year 1, another super trip with fantastic behaviour – we can’t wait for the next!
Year 1 have recently started our outdoor learning sessions on a Friday morning.
This week we braved the rain to take our maths, literacy and art into the natural environment.
We explored 2D shapes, looking for shapes around the outdoor area and creating our own with leaves, twigs and pebbles.
We took our reading outside to read The Gruffalo and to think of adjectives to describe him whilst creating a Gruffalo collage.
We also explored shades of colour by finding as many different natural colours as we could!
We all had a fab time and enjoyed getting muddy in our welly boots!
Classes 4 and 3 had a spooktaculartime celebrating our 'Spooky dress up day." We took part in lots of spooky activities throughout the day. The children came up with some ghastly adjectives to use to write a 'GHOST' acrostic poem. We also explored estimation in maths, carrying out a ghoulishpumpkin investigation! Both classes loved getting messy by making some spooky, gloopy soup too! We finished the day with a 'spooky' disco and yoga, retelling a haunting story through yoga poses. We all had a magical day!
