Drawing American Landmarks at the Apple Store

“We went to the Apple Store and learnt how to use Freeform – but we already knew how to do that because of our Innovation Project!  Luckily the main part of of our workshop was learning how to use Procreate to draw some pictures of American Landmarks” – Ezra

“The guy running the workshop was really fun and helped us a lot with our pictures – he was called Terrance” – Henry

USA Video Diary: Day One

After an incredibly early start and a long day of travelling, the Jelly Friends are safely in Boston!  Each day we’ll be sharing some highlights and reflections with a video diary, just like this…

Risky Robots in Bags

Today we’ve started packing everything we need to go to America, which included something we’ve been putting off for weeks – breaking apart all of our attachments so they can fit in our suitcases!

Even though it’s something we have to do I can honestly I don’t like this at all – it just doesn’t feel right! I hope we can rebuild them all at the other end…

Jelly Brick Bash proves a huge hit!

We’ve had a fun afternoon creating robots using Spike Prime LEGO which had to do fun challenges like a race and performing on stage at Robot’s Got Talent!

I’m surprised that so many people came – I wonder if that’s to do with the promise of prizes? Or perhaps they came to support us by having their own once-in-a-lifetime robot experience with their families? Either way we’re really grateful they came to support us at the Brick Bash and that they’re having lots of fun!

We also wanted to say a huge thank you to Andy from Cognition Learning who kindly gave up his time to help us prepare for the competition and to run this amazing event.  Thanks Andy!

Live on BBC Radio Cornwall

Ezra, Henry and Matteo were live on air this morning with presenter Emma Gill. Despite being understandably a little nervous beforehand they spoke about the project, hard work and exciting adventure to America with confidence and passion – listen for yourself here!

The moment we discovered that we’d been invited to America!

We are a group of nine Year 6 students from CornwallUK who are taking part in the FIRST LEGO League for the second and final time with Penpol School.  As Year 6’s we’ll soon be leaving Penpol and going our separate ways to Secondary School.

For two years we’ve been working hard during our lunchtimes to build and code a LEGO Robot as well as creating an innovative jellyfish detecting wristband that lets you know if the jellyfish nearby are safe to swim with or not.  We were thrilled to learn that all our hard work has paid off and that we’ve received a special invitation to represent Great Britain in an International Competition in Massachusetts, USA!

This website will tell you all about our journey so far, as well as sharing some way that you can help support us as we travel across the Atlantic to share our project in America
