Art at Penpol School is led by Christina Sukstiene
Art is creative, expressive and has a huge impact on the mental health and wellbeing of the participants. It is accessible and has no limits or boundaries, meaning that every child can be an artist. There is no right or wrong in art, every child can feel successful and competent. Here at Penpol School we aim to encourage our children to use their imaginations, be individual and problem-solve, producing something that they can be truly proud of. The Art provision at Penpol School is plethora of inspiring and meaningful opportunities. Pablo Picasso once said “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” Our rich and varied curriculum at Penpol School means there wouldn’t be a speck of dust in sight.
At Penpol School we aim to provide children with an abundance of opportunities to explore different techniques and to develop and build upon artistic skills. We allow the children to express themselves freely through their artwork and discuss meanings behind their finished outcomes. The children are given the opportunity to explore a number of local and world-famous artists, studying their work and identifying the techniques used to apply to their own pieces of art. We aim to provide the children with the tools needed to be creative and expressive whilst exploring a range of medium. Throughout their journey at Penpol, the children will revisit skills and techniques to constantly build upon and improve them.
What we will see at Penpol School is children who are confident, competent and willing to have a go. Children who are able to understand and use the key vocabulary and concepts of art. They will be confident in observing others’ work and will be able to see meaning behind the artists choices. We aim for the children to be creative and inspired by what we teach them and adventurous in the work they produce. The ultimate aim is to support every child in becoming passionate about their talents and skills. To help them learn techniques to express their emotions and imagination in a way that they are proud to share with others.
