Evacuation: Year 6 Step Back in Time!

Year 6 pupils at Penpol School stepped back in time for a memorable Evacuee Day, bringing their learning about the Second World War to life!

Dressed as evacuees, the children began the day by saying goodbye to their parents before immersing themselves in the experiences of children evacuated from towns and cities during the war. Throughout the day, pupils took part in a range of exciting, hands-on activities, including making ‘wartime’ scones, writing recipes, creating Blitz-inspired collages and even responding to air raid sirens!

After a ration-free lunch, children explored their new countryside surroundings on a walk to the Millpond, imagining what it might have been like to leave home and arrive somewhere unfamiliar. These activities helped pupils develop a deeper understanding of the impact of the Second World War on civilians and the challenges faced by evacuee children.

To finish the day, pupils welcomed parents and carers into school to share their evacuee diaries, history books and freshly baked scones. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the children’s hard work, creativity and historical learning throughout the term so far.

Well done, Year 6, for bringing history to life and showing such enthusiasm throughout this memorable day!
