Penpol School Choir at Camborne Music Festival

On Thursday 14th November, some of our fantastic KS2 choir represented Penpol School excellently at the Camborne Music Festival. The Choir sang two pieces, Human – by Rag ‘N; Bone Man and When I Grow Up from the hit musical Matilda, written by Tim Minchin. The choir sang beautifully and were well received by the audience and adjudicator, receiving 84 marks and being Highly Commended.

During the piece When I Grow Up, there was a well praised solo and a number of duets and small group parts which were highly praised and wonderfully sang by the pupils. We look forward to competing at the festival again another year.

The successes of our school choir have led to a record number of members, which now total a staggering 57 pupils in Key Stage 2. If you missed the performance of the choir at the music festival, please look out for future Christmas Concert dates in the coming month. We shall be performing at the annual Key Stage 2 Christmas Concert at St. Elwyn’s Church on 18th December, as well as other venues in the lead up to Christmas.

Music in the Marquee 2019 – The Movie!

This year we had our fifth Music in the Marquee concert here at Penpol School, this year featuring the amazing Leanne Kyte as The Ariana Grande Experience. As is fast becoming a tradition, we’ve made a very special short film of the evening to bring back all of those amazing memories!

As always, these events are held to help raise money for the Penpol Friends Association (PFA) and this year I’m thrilled to say that we’ve raised nearly four and a half thousand pounds – all of which will go to supporting Penpol School in the years to come.

Thank you all so much for supporting our school through events like these.

Class 6 visit Tremenheere Gardens

At last the sun was shining and Class 6 were able to go on their educational visit to the Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens, without wearing wellington boots, coats and hats. Whilst at the gardens, the children got to observe a variety of sculptures and exotic plants, which they were then able to draw into their sketchbooks. The children also got to go inside the camera obscure, where they were able to see a 360 degree view of the gardens in a hypnotic and magical way.

As part of their art topic ‘Sculpture’ Class 6 had a busy afternoon up in the wildlife area creating sculptures from natural materials. The children enjoyed working together to select sticks, stones, flowers and leaves to create their own designs.

The Sinking of the Titanic

During this terms History lessons, Class 6 have been busy learning all about the sinking of the Titanic. Whilst learning about this famous ship, the children have also been able to incorporate DT into their learning by creating their own moving picture that displays the Titanic colliding with the iceberg. Some children also decided to continue their learning at home by creating models, or paintings of the ship, to share at their weekly assembly.

Class 8 produce the first ever Penpol Podcast!

Penpol had a special visitor on Tuesday. Karen Pirie, a radio producer for Radio 4 visited Class 8 and made a podcast with the children about the history of Hayle.

“I really enjoyed making the podcast and adding the sound effects.” (Obi age 8)

“I loved recording our voices and thinking about the different ways to speak on a podcast.” (Liliana age 8)

“It was really fun and I want to make my own podcast at home.” (Dylan)

“Karen was really great fun and she had a lovely smile. I liked making the podcast” (Cerys age 7)

Preparing For Christmas With The Choir

The Penpol Junior Choir has been busy preparing for this year’s festivities, rehearsing Christmas songs which are to be performed at a number of events throughout December. After working really hard to learn and polish the songs which were performed at the Camborne Music Festival, the choir have got together during a lunch time to record one of their favourite carols, The Sans Day Carol, to help get everyone in the mood. Please listen to the school choir and enjoy, whilst getting into the Christmas Spirit.

Penpol Junior Choir At The Camborne Music Festival

On the 15th November 2018, the Penpol Junior Choir participated in this year’s Camborne Music Festival. The children performed two songs, Touch the Sky and I’m Still Singing, with energy and confidence giving a fantastic performance to the adjudicator and the audience. The choir were awarded with 168 marks (out of 200) and were praised for their energy and spirit and their great part singing. The children really enjoyed the experience and we look forward to the next Music festival.

Around the World in 80 Grooves

Classes 1 and 2 have danced themselves around the world with some amazing dances from India, Mexico, Russia, Hawaii, England and Ireland.

The dance show started with a song to welcome parents in different languages then started with Class1’s graceful Bollywood dance.

I liked the Bollywood dance best. It’s from India. You say hello by saying Nemaste. I liked the changing the lightbulbs bit – Enya

Next we went to Hawaii with Class 2.

I liked doing the Hawaii dance. I liked the beginning where we put our arms in the air. I loved wearing the grass skirts – Poppy

The fabulous dancers hulaed beautifully and some brave dancers came to the front and danced in a duo for the parents.

Class 1 then lept their way to visit Russia and do a sensational Cossack Dance.

I liked the Russian dance best because I liked going into the middle and doing my dance – Layla

The strong and athletic cossacks remembered all the dance moves amazingly well and really enjoyed shouting hey when they leapt into the air.

I liked the jumping bit and twirling bit with your partner. Dobrey dyen is hello- Isaac

Next Class 2 jetted of to Mexico.

With their own class made shakers, they shimmied and shook all the way around the hall to La Bamba.

I liked doing the Mexican dancing. I liked shaking my shaker – Scarlett-Jada

After Mexico, Class 1 came back home to do some English folk dancing in the form of an amazing morris dance.

I liked the Morris dance because it was really good. I like dancing in a circle and waving the hankies – Ruby

The girls skipped happily around waving their hankies in time to the music and the boys marched merrily shaking their bells.

I liked shaking the bells best. I liked dancing in a circle around Will my partner – Mason

Finally, to finish off the show, Class 2 stayed fairly close to home and did some brilliant Irish dancing with great stamps and cuts throughout.

I loved skipping forwards and back. I did a solo with Kieran and did some cuts – Tilly

The children have loved learning about different cultures and have throughly enjoyed learning some new dances. They shone in their performances and remembered all the dance moves like professionals.

Infant Star of the Week

Class 2 – Reception – Jowan

The overall infant star of the week is Jowan. Jowan is a great member of Class 2 and has been making brilliant progress in his phonics and maths work. He has been working very hard on his letter formation and always joins in when we are practising our sounds and phonics actions. Jowan is a very kind and helpful member of Class 2 and is always willing to help both the adults and the other children in the class. Well-done Jowan!

Junior Star of the Week

Class 14- Year 6 – George

The overall Junior Star of the Week is George McCallum from Class 14. This week has seen a fantastic improvement in his maths. George has been working extremely hard at home, in class and at homework club to improve his maths and is really beginning to shine in the subject. He is a fantastic example to everyone that anything is possible with hard work and commitment. Well-done George.

Class Stars of the Week

Class 1 – Reception – Nicolas

Class 1’s star of the week goes to Nicolas. He has increased is making a great effort with his work and is trying really hard when practising his letters sounds. Nicholas listens to instructions well and gets on with his work quickly. Well done Nicolas, keep up the great effort.

Class 3 – Year 1 – Ethan

This weeks star pupil is Ethan in class 3. He is following all the rules for learning and is excelling in all subjects. He knows all his 2D and 3D shapes and can explain the differences. He is confident using the computer and programming a toy to follow instructions. He enjoyed counting £100 in real money and is able to pay for his fruit correctly up to 20p. His reading is improving daily as he keeps practising without prompting and his handwriting is neat and on the line. It is a pleasure having Ethan in class, as he is always helpful and kind to his friends. Well-done Ethan.

Class 5 – Year 2 – Maison

Class 5 star of the week is Maison.

Maison is new to Class 5 and has only been here for a couple of weeks. He has settled in really well, as starting a new school, meeting other children and getting to know the children and teachers of his class and Penpol school must be rather daunting and even scary! He is trying really hard with his work and loves getting tokens and stamps for his efforts. Well done Maison, its lovely to have you in Class 5, keep trying hard and you will do great things!

Class 7 – Year 3 – Samuel

Samuel has a great work ethic and often works hard to compete a given task. Samuel is a lively sensitive young man who is quite creative and also is popular with his peers. Samuel will always put effort into his work and is trying very hard to improve his handwriting skills, so very well done Samuel.

Class 9 – Year 4 – Rocky

Rocky is an enthusiastic and cheerful member of Class 9. He always has a smile on his face and comes to school ready and willing to learn. We have really enjoyed seeing all the extra school work he does at home, so far this term, he has brought in: a project on Italy, a Roman shield and a wand to mention but a few. Ronnie has also worked really hard with his regular homework and because of that he is doing particularly well in Three Minute Maths and spelling. He has also been elected Year 4 School Councillor for this year. Well-done Rocky

Class 11- Year 5 – Frida

This week’s star from Class 11 is Frida. Frida is a pleasure to have in class. She has combined excellent work in Literacy and Topic this last week to produce a wonderful diary extract from the perspective of herself living and working during the industrial revolution. Well-done Frida.

Class 13 – Year 6 – Ben

Ben has shown that he has a real aptitude when it comes to maths and has been a great role model in this subject and is, quite literally, someone to beat when it comes to mental arithmetic questioning.

Ben also tries hard with his literacy and has made progress with this.

Added to all of this, he is just a nice chap with a good personality. Well-done Ben!
