Sport ‘Wrapped Up’ For Christmas

Mr Stanlake

As the Autumn term comes to an end we can reflect on a wonderful term full of sporting success.

The football team have enjoyed the most success over the term with some big results including 10-2 , 9-0 and 8-0 victories. They currently sit 3rd in the league level on points with Alverton, although their goal difference is slightly better. The Year 6’s have really built on last year and set a great example for the year 5 children who had joined the team this year.

As well as their performances in the league they have also enjoyed a brief cup run before eventually being beaten in the quarterfinals 6-5 after extra time.

Like football, we have had many children continue to and also start playing netball regularly. With a weekly club the children have learnt the rules and rotations involved with high 5 netball as well as improving their ball skills. A selection of children have also represented the school in fortnightly fixtures at Mounts Bay Academy. With the commitment of the children attending the performances will only continue to improve week on week.

Following its introduction last year, hockey at Penpol has allowed all Year 5 and 6 children to try something new. After the lessons they have received during PE lessons a selection of children have also been introduced to competitive hockey by their participation in the Penrith Area In2Hockey League. With mixed results the children have had a blast competing and playing one of the most up and coming sports around following the success of our GB Women’s Team at the Rio Olympics. We may even have a future olympian in our team!
