Parents / School Dinners
School meals at Penpol School are provided by Chartwells.
Healthy eating menus are planned on a three-week cycle and change in line with the seasons, offering an autumn, spring and summer menu.
The current price of a school meal is £2.30 per day for Juniors. However, if you pay for dinners from Monday - Thursday your child's meal on a Friday is FREE.
Penpol School is a Healthy School and we are very keen to encourage and to teach the children about how they can lead a healthy lifestyle. In Foundation Stage and KS1 all children are provided with a piece of fruit or vegetable for their mid-morning snack. KS2 children can bring their own fresh fruit or vegetable snack to eat during early morning break.
A healthy Tuck Shop is provided during early morning break (10:15am) and is available to all KS2 children. The shop, which is run by our Year 6 pupils, offers a range of fresh fruit and vegetables
All children should have a bottle of water with a non-spill top in class that they may drink from during the day.
We encourage all children to eat healthily at lunchtime to ensure they are alert and ready to learn in the afternoon.
Crisps, chocolate, cereal bars and other fatty or processed foods should only be an occasional treat if you decide to provide a packed lunch.
The school has a no nut policy. This includes peanut butter in sandwiches as we have a number of children with serious nut allergies.
Guidelines and ideas for healthy packed lunches are available - Healthier Packed Lunch for Children
Free School Meals
Reception, Year 1 and Year 2
From September 2014 all pupils in reception, year 1 and year 2 in state-funded schools in England should be offered a free school meal (UIFSM). This includes academies, free schools, pupil referral units and alternative provision as well as maintained schools.
In England, children at key stages 2-4 in state-funded schools are entitled to receive FSM if their parents or carers are in receipt of any of the following benefits:
Regardless of what year your child is in, if you are entitled to free school meals it is very important that you still apply. In doing this you will attract more funding for your child.
